Introducing Phibbs Edge
Phibbs Edge is an independent
firm of Chartered Accountants based in Wilmslow,
Cheshire. The firm is headed by John Phibbs who qualified
as a Chartered Accountant in 1974 after completing a
training contract with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
John spent ten years with Coopers, specialising latterly
in insolvency work which gave him a thorough insight
into the realities of the commercial world.
After leaving Coopers John spent five years in
Industry before rejoining the profession with his own
practice in 1986. The years in Industry gave John, unusually
amongst accountants in the profession, experience of
the problems facing and the needs of businesses operating
in the commercial world.

Working with Businesses
Phibbs Edge acts for businesses, mainly
based in the North West although some are further afield,
ranging in size from the very small to around £15m.
turnover per annum.
The firm specialises in helping owner
operated business on two fronts.
Firstly, the firm assists in clients'
compliance work in terms of completion of accounts,
audit, taxation computations and returns, VAT returns,
payroll and statutory requirements. Relieving our clients
of the completion of these tasks allows them to concentrate
on their main objective which is to drive their business
forward. It also ensures that wherever possible their
affairs are dealt with in the most tax efficient manner
possible and that all deadlines are met.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly,
the firm likes to think of itself as part of the team
assisting the business to achieve its objectives. John
and his senior managers spend a great deal of their
time advising clients on their business strategy and
assisting them in achieving their goals. This may involve
the formation of business plans, fund raising, assisting
in business purchases or sales or helping them to set
targets for their business.
Whilst emphasis is placed on profitability,
equal importance is placed on cash flow and training
clients to look at the effect that decisions have on
their business through the use of forecasting tools
and ratio analysis.
Phibbs Edge has a varied portfolio of
audit clients, most of whom are companies requiring
statutory audits. However a significant proportion of
the portfolio is governed by other regulations including Pension funds, Charities,
Solicitors and Travel Agents.
